Commercial License

XChain Platform is dual-licensed:

  1. GNU Affero General Public License v3.0 (AGPL-3.0) — the default, free, open-source license. See LICENSE.
  2. A commercial license from Dankest, LLC — described below, for those who cannot or do not wish to comply with the AGPL.

You may use XChain Platform under either license. This page explains when you need the commercial one.

Do I need a commercial license?

You do NOT need one (AGPL is enough) if any of these is true:

  • You use XChain for personal, hobby, research, or educational purposes.
  • You run XChain unmodified — for any purpose, including inside a company.
  • You modify XChain and you are willing to release your modified source code to everyone who interacts with it over a network, under the AGPL.

You DO need a commercial license if:

  • You want to modify XChain and keep your modifications private (closed-source), while running it as a service or product — internal or external.
  • You want to embed or build XChain into a proprietary product without that product becoming subject to the AGPL’s source-disclosure requirements.
  • Your legal or compliance policy prohibits AGPL-licensed software, and you need different terms.

In short: the AGPL is free, but it requires you to share your changes. The commercial license is the paid way to keep your changes private.

What the commercial license gives you

[TO FINALIZE WITH COUNSEL] Confirm the exact grant. Typical terms:

  • A non-exclusive right to use, modify, and deploy XChain Platform without the AGPL’s copyleft / network source-disclosure obligations.
  • The right to keep your modifications and integrations proprietary.
  • Optionally: priority support, SLAs, and indemnification (define separately).

The commercial license does not grant rights to the XChain trademark or branding — see TRADEMARK.md. You may run the software; you may not call your deployment “XChain” or use the marks without separate permission.

Pricing

[TO FINALIZE] Decide whether pricing is published, tiered (by company size / revenue / deployment count), or quote-based. Keep this consistent with LICENSING.md.

How to get one

Email legal@dankest.llc with:

  • Your company name and a short description of how you intend to use XChain.
  • Whether you need to keep modifications private, embed it in a product, or just need non-AGPL terms.

We’ll send you the commercial agreement.

Why dual licensing?

XChain Platform is, and will remain, genuinely open source under the AGPL — anyone can read, run, modify, and share it for free. The commercial license exists so that companies who want to build private, proprietary value on top of XChain contribute back to the project that makes it possible. This funds ongoing development and keeps the open-source version healthy for everyone.

This page is a plain-language summary. The binding documents are the AGPL-3.0 LICENSE and any signed commercial agreement with Dankest, LLC.
