XChain Trademark Policy

The XChain™ name, the XChain logo, and related marks (the “Marks”) are trademarks of Dankest, LLC. This policy explains how you may and may not use them.

Why this is separate from the code license. The software is open source under the AGPL-3.0 — you are free to use, modify, and run the code. Trademark is different: it protects the name and brand so users can trust that something called “XChain” is the real thing. You can run the software freely; you cannot use the Marks to brand your own version without permission.

[LAWYER REVIEW REQUIRED] Confirm the registered/claimed status of each mark and the jurisdictions covered before publishing. Adjust “™” vs “®” accordingly.

You may, without asking us

  • Use the Marks nominatively to refer to the XChain Platform — e.g. “compatible with XChain,” “built on XChain,” “an XChain node operator,” “works with the XChain protocol.”
  • Redistribute the official, unmodified software under its real name.
  • Use the word “XChain” in truthful, descriptive statements about interoperability or support.
  • Use the Marks in articles, tutorials, talks, and reviews.

The guiding rule: you may use the Marks to describe XChain truthfully. You may not use them in a way that implies your product is XChain or is endorsed by Dankest, LLC.

You may NOT, without written permission

  • Name your own product, service, fork, company, or token “XChain” or anything confusingly similar.
  • Brand a modified version of the software with the Marks. If you change the code, you must distribute it under a different name (you keep the AGPL rights to the code — you just can’t use our brand on your fork).
  • Use the Marks (or look-alike logos/domains) in a way that implies official status, endorsement, partnership, or affiliation with Dankest, LLC when none exists.
  • Register domain names, social media handles, app names, or company names containing “XChain” or confusingly similar terms.
  • Use the Marks on merchandise for sale.

Modified versions

If you distribute a modified version of XChain Platform:

  • You must give it a distinct name and branding that is not confusingly similar to the Marks.
  • You may truthfully state that it is “based on XChain Platform” or “a fork of XChain” (nominative use).
  • You may not present it as the official XChain Platform.

This is the standard open-source pattern: the code is free (AGPL), the brand is protected — exactly how Firefox/Iceweasel and Red Hat/CentOS have always worked.

Logo usage

  • Do not modify, recolor, distort, or animate the logo.
  • Do not combine the logo with other logos or marks to create a composite identity.
  • Maintain clear space and minimum size per any brand guidelines we publish.

This policy may be updated over time. It does not grant any rights to the Marks beyond those stated. When in doubt, ask.
